VIM 2006
Gulfport, Mississippi
Mt. Pleasant UMC
We drove to Gulfport, Mississippi on October 11th to help in rebuilding some houses and some lives, but we are being rewarded more than the folks we are working for. On this trip are David Duke, Adrian Miller, David Patton and myself, Homer Davidson. We plan to return to St. Joseph on the 18th.
This is the Mt. Pleasant UMC that is our host.
This is a work team from Pennsylvania that was staying at the same church.
This is the first project that lasted for two days. We installed windows, framed doors, hung doors, hung cabinets and a range hood, crown molding, mop board and much more. Following are some of the pictures from this project.
Following are some pictures from the second project, rebuilding a carport for a gentleman. This carport had been fixed after hurricane Camile.
A sample of the mold growing in this ceiling.
We will finish this project on Monday. Come back for pictures of the finished project.
Project was finished between drops of rain.
We were given an additional project of rebuilding a bathroom. This ended up being Dave Patton's personal project while the other three completed the roof project.
Look for more pictures here after Sunday. We plan to make a trip to New Orleans to see the sights.
What we found as we entered New Orleans is an area several miles long next to I-10 that is almost completely abandoned. Below is a picture of one of many rental complexes that have apparently been abandoned.
This was a very long trip with hard work but also a very rewarding experience.
