Christian Education
From the beginning of the Methodist Church there was a deep commitment
of the general membership that was exhibited in their willingness to adhere
to the spiritual disciplines and standards of conduct outlined by their
church. Methodists have been guided by a set of General Rules adopted
at the Christmas Conference of 1784. We have been urged to avoid
evil, to do good, and to use the means of grace supplied by God.
These are the same teachings that we find the Apostle Paul giving to young
Timothy and Titus in our New Testament.
To help us learn these truths the Methodist Church has stressed the
importance of Christian Education. For many years this was limited
to the Sunday School, and this is still one of our most popular offerings
as we at St. Mark have classes every Sunday Morning for each age level
- from birth to senior citizen.
In recent years there is a growing trend to offer Christian Education classes
all during the week, and we do so here with Disciple Bible Studies, youth
activities, enrichment classes, opportunities for learning through music,
periodic mission studies, and the list continues with something daily to
meet the needs of a highly transient and busy congregation.
We are committed to the inspired soul and the educated mind. Was
not one of Jesus' commands for us to "...go teach, and make disciples...."
This is the purpose of all our programs of Christian education. |
