Reverend Monty Brown is a West Virginia native who graduated from Methodist Theological School in 1994. He also holds an undergraduate degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and JD from West Virginia University. Before coming to Saint Marks he held appointments in the Morgantown, Parkersburg and Huntington areas. Monty is married to his high school sweetheart, Jane, and they have two children, Josh and Bethany. He likens his role as pastor to that of a sheepdog.

Prior to attending seminary, Monty practiced law for fifteen years in Fairmont, where he was an active participant in the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served as chair of the Division of Peace with Justice of the Conference Board of Church and Society for eight years. In that role he led conference work teams to Mexico, Russia and Antigua. He has served on and directed various other conference committees.
