St. Mark's UMC Early Childhood Program
A Child's Garden

... a place where young lives can bloom
PHILOSOPHY & CURRICULUM
St. Mark’s Early Childhood Program is a recognized ministry of St. Mark’s
United Methodist Church. We maintain a high quality program where each child is
provided with developmentally appropriate care in a secure, warm environment
that encourages growth of the whole child. We strive to encourage the
individuality and special worth as children of God, to develop self-discipline
and to develop respect for and understanding of individuals different from
themselves.
St. Mark’s believes that young children learn through play and actual
experiences. Our program will provide a variety of activities to foster the
processes of learning, creativity and problem solving.
PURPOSES
Our purposes are to provide a place where children are accepted as
individuals, loved, trusted and with limits provided so that they can experience
growth:
1. In self worth and confidence
2. In physical skills
3. In self-control and getting along with others.
4. In discovering a desire to learn and explore.
5. In awareness of God and His word.
St. Mark’s Early Childhood Program is a non-profit center licensed by the State of Ohio to serve 53 school age, 36 preschool, 12 pre-k, 14 toddlers and 1 older infant (15 month min.).
St. Mark’s serves breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack all meals that follow USDA standards for nutrition and serving size. Our staff - child ratios meets or exceeds the State Licensing standards. We have mixed age group classes with 2 groups of 18 months to three year olds, 2 groups of 3, 4 year olds, 1 group of 4 ½ to 5 years olds, Pre-K, 1 group of Kindergarten and 2 groups of 6-9 year olds. (1st -4th grade).
Our hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center
is open for childcare year round with the exception of holidays listed in the
parent handbook.

The program’s objective in discipline is focused on the development and
maintenance of self-control. Limits are developed to promote a safe and
functional environment. Positive guidance techniques such as Focused Attention,
Active Listening and Redirection are used to support the child and maintain
limits in the classroom.
