From the Pastor’s Desk

Grace and Peace of our Lord be with you.

How would you describe when you see over 25 people giving their time and energy to help with the turkey dinner? What would you call a group of people setting up a Christmas shop to raise money for the church? What would you call when you see 7 or 8 people from a team of care coordinators putting together a funeral dinner for those in mourning? How about the ushers, the organists, the social and mission teams, the Winter Coat Check, the CROP walk, the food pantry volunteers and those who contribute to the shoebox ministry. That can be summed up all in one word: Stewardship, which means to share yourself with others, to reach out and to let others know we care about them -all this is happening at St. Marks. . This place couldn't have survived without the time, talent and treasures shared by the faithful people of God.

Stewardship is not primarily about money, it’s about life, it is about our gratitude and our journeying together as a faith community. Congregations that approach Stewardship from a Biblical perspective do not view money as the only way to maintain the church. On the other hand, they see their financial contributions as a way to support the church’s mission and ministry and feel privileged to be a part of God’s Kingdom. .

Friends we are coming to a very important time of the year, the season of Thanksgiving, when we as a congregation will have an opportunity to pledge our giving and show our gratitude to God. November 11th is our Stewardship Sunday and I am asking you to support the ministry of our church and be involved in a responsible way – make time for the Lord, be in worship, reach out to the unchurched and the inactive members of our church, develop a deeper relationship with Christ, strengthen our Sunday School, and the ministry of children and youth.

I am sure you have been touched by God, but do not forget the ultimate giver from whose hands we have received all the blessings of life. Give from a sense of hope and commitment for the future of St. Marks. Please join me in praying that all of us who call St. Marks United Methodist Church our church home, will faithfully respond and make a difference. Thanks in advance for your commitment. Have a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving.

In Christ’s Service, He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly; and

And He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

Operation Christmas Child

A Mission Project

This Christmas, you can share joy and hope with a hurting child around the world by using a simple gift filled shoe box and a $7.00 donation. The $7.00 helps to cover shipping, processing, and the purchase of Christian material to distribute with the boxes. It’s an evangelism ministry led by Franklin Graham.

Operation Christmas Child does much more than just deliver shoe boxes. It reaches children and families with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Countless lives are changed for eternity as the distribution teams hand out Christian literature and share the message of eternal life through Christ.

It’s a mission project in which every family member can participate by bringing a gift filled box to the church worship

th

service during November 4th and November 11 . Brochures will be available from the ushers on November 4th and

th

November 11 , and are available in Fellowship Hall. We hope you will be part of this exciting opportunity to share God’s love with a hurting child.

You can find more information about this wonderful outreach at www.samaritanspurse.org or by calling Karen Casper at 870-8527.
