UMW Happenings
UPC Labels for UMW
St. James UMW has been collecting UPC
labels from various products and forwarding them to either Hattie B.
Cooper Community Center in Roxbury, Massachusetts, or the Red Bird
Mission in Beverly, Kentucky. These labels are then used to
purchase much needed items as large as a van. It doesn’t seem
possible that these tiny labels can do so much to help the lives of
others. For more specific information as to what to collect and how
to cut them off the packages, please check the bulletin board in the
Fellowship Hall, as the requirements change from time to time.
Spring 2008 - American Cancer
Society

in this community event. If you would like to get involved please

Spring 2008 - Prayer Shawls
Many
beautiful prayer shawls have been made by our generous and talented
St. James members and friends. Thank you very much for your time
and commitment to this very worthwhile endeavor. This is a
wonderful winter project for knitters and certainly the more prayer
shawls we can put on the shelves now, the more we will have through
the summer months when we are less likely to want to knit them.
Yarn is available to you if you would like to join the “circle of
knitters” in making these lovely prayer shawls for individuals in
need. Please call Cheryl Barb @ 424-2918 if you have any questions.
Our knitters are also knitting chemo caps for cancer patients.
These caps should be knit with a soft cotton yarn on circular
needles so there are no seams. The scalp is very sensitive
after hair loss and seams, knots and texture are very irritating.
Patterns are available on line or see or call Cheryl Barb.
June 8 - Tools of Hope
You have the opportunity
once again this year to honor a special father in your life with a
gift to “Tools of Hope” sponsored by Church World Service. A
donation may be made up to June 8th by filling out the
forms found in the Sunday bulletins. Your gift will provide help to
others in need around the world and in the United States. Including
everything from blankets to pumps, hoes to fishing nets, tents to
sewing machines, trowels to wells, education to a small enterprise
loan—tools that empower people and bring a better tomorrow.
