UMW Happenings
 UPC Labels for UMW
St. James UMW has been collecting UPC labels from various products and forwarding them to either Hattie B. Cooper Community Center in Roxbury, Massachusetts, or the Red Bird Mission in Beverly, Kentucky.  These labels are then used to purchase much needed items as large as a van.  It doesn’t seem possible that these tiny labels can do so much to help the lives of others.  For more specific information as to what to collect and how to cut them off the packages, please check the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall, as the requirements
change from time to time.

Missions and Social Concerns News
“Projects that do not require any money”  The following is an outline of St. James’ Mission projects that do not require any money

1) We will continue to collect the tabs from soda and other cans for the Shriners. The Shriners use these tabs to raise money to support their hospitals that specialize in crippled children and burn victims. The Shriners are one of two organizations that have hospitals in the United States that people can go to that are free.  (The other is St. Jude)

2) We will continue to collect eye glasses for the Lions Club in Merrimack.

3) We will also continue to collect soda cans; (remember to remove the tabs in order to support the Shriners’ hospitals).   The profits from the cans will be used to support Luis and Esther.  They are the children from the Dominican Republic that the Sunday School is sponsoring.  This program was started in Vacation Bible School.  Lindsey Finken will continue to be in charge of the aluminum can program.

4) We will once again be supporting the Heifer program.  This will be funded through Shaw’s receipts.,  Please bring in all your original Shaw’s register receipts and St. James will receive 1 % of the total sales.  Lindsey Finken will be in charge of the financial part of this program.  Please note that the Heifer program supports people in this country as well as in foreign countries.  They were very helpful to the farmers in this country after hurricane Katrina.  To date we have purchased five flocks of chickens, one pig, and one goat.  Our goal this year is to purchase a heifer.  This will cost $500.00.

5) New this year will be the collection of used towels, tablecloths, blankets, etc. which will be used at the Humane Society in Nashua. Containers to collect these items, as well as explanations of the programs can be found in the Fellowship Hall.

6) Also, new this year is a program called “Got Books”.
Looking to get rid of your used books?  We have a drop-off donation container for new and used books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and audio books.  The gray book donation container is located in the parking lot of the church.  Funds earned through items donated will directly benefit the church. In addition to helping raise money for the church, these donated goods will be repurposed in great ways; they could be donated to schools, libraries, and other groups in need, sent overseas to the troops, given to teachers for their classrooms, or sold in book sales and online.

Thank you for your past participation in these programs and thank you in advance for your continued support.
