The "Wesleyan Essentials of Christian Faith" was adopted by the World Methodist Council during its meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Aug. 7-15, 1996, and offered to World Methodists as an instrument of guidance and healing within the Christian community. The "Guidelines for Use by Methodist Christians," to be considered when engaging with other Methodists, other Christian communions, and people of other living faiths, was received by the Council as suggestion.
