Blankets Made for Project Linus

Stanhope United Methodist Church

                        - Reaching Out To Others

Helping Others

Not only do we feel it is important to reach out to our local community (see below) but we believe the word “neighbor” in a Christian sense has a wider meaning.  The following are examples of  projects we do:

Project Linus – Participants knit/crochet/etc. blankets for critically ill children.  In much the same way that his security blankets gave Peanut’s Linus comfort, so do these handmade blankets give these ill children comfort.

Caps and scarves for Seamen - Besides knitting and crocheting blankets for Project Linus, some of the women create caps and scarves for the Seaman who travel on freighters hauling goods

Campbells Labels to Red Bird Mission – Campbells labels are collected and sent to Red Bird Mission, the Methodist mission in one of the poorest parts of Appalachia.  The labels are used to purchase educational supplies for the school.

Health Kits for  Church World Services– We collect a variety of toiletry items to be given to the needy of the world through Church World Service.

United Methodist Women – This women’s service group sponsors Project Linus and helps out in many other ways such as holding popcorn Sundays (selling popcorn during the after church fellowship time) with the proceeds going to Henderson Settlement at Red Bird Mission.

Community Programs

It is the belief of this church that not only is the aid and welfare of its own congregation important, but that it is just as important to be a good neighbor and help the community in which we live. We open our doors to the following programs:

1.      Food Pantry

2.      Alcoholics Anonymous

3.       Narcotics Anonymous

4.      Musconetcong Historical Society

5.      KidWorks DayCare Center

6.    Interfaith Hospitality Network
