Join one of many Church Ministries 

  • Sunday Church School- To provide Christian education in the Sunday School and other settings that helps persons grow in their understanding of the Bible and their Christian faith so that they may live as Christian disciples and good neighbors.  Teach children what God would want them to know and what it takes to become a good Christian with good morals and values  All ages welcome 
  • Music Ministry- To lead the congregation during the worship service and in other areas where necessary by singing or playing musical instruments.  The music ministry provides musical leadership in learning hymns of the Methodist Hymnal and by performing other musical selections at appropriate times.

  • Missions Ministry- To visit the sick, feed the hungry, providing blankets for Sarah's House, support United Methodist Community Services, Maryland Food Committee, provide lunches for habitat volunteers, visit the shut-ins, give personal items for the needy and provide baskets of food for those less fortunate at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Education Ministry-
    • Provide learning experiences for persons of all ages so that they may better understand the gospel and become better equipped for daily Christian living.  Support United Methodist educational ministry units so students may grow in understanding of themselves and their Christian faith.

    • The Sunday School programs are viable, with special emphasis b placed on the  scripture, memory verses, and studying God's word; all  in relationship with children based concerns.

    • The Summer Vacation  Bible School  is an outreach ministry for our church.  The program is centered around reaching and nurturing children inside and outside of the church through Bible study, songs, liturgical dance, and arts and crafts.

    • Literacy Program/SAT/Reading: the Summer Reading Program is held during the summer to assist children, youth and adults with their reading skills.

    • The weekly nursery is filled with toddlers who are nurtured by loving volunteers who convey God's love through playful interaction, support and care.

  • Scholarship Ministry
  • Family Ministry- Guide families in Christian living, prepare persons for marriage, and help families find opportunities for service in  Church, community and the world.
  • Singles Ministry - Address the concerns and conditions of single persons in the Church and Community so that they may grow in their understanding of themselves and the Christian faith and that their quality of life may be improved.
  • Young Adult Ministry- Address the concerns and conditions of young adults ages 18-30 in the Church and Community so that they may grow in their understanding of themselves and the Christian faith, and that their quality of life may be improved.
  • Youth Ministry- Address the concerns and conditions of youth ages 11-17, in our church and community so that they may grow in their understanding of themselves and the Christian faith,  and that their quality of life may be improved.
  • Children's Ministry- Address the concerns and conditions of children ages 3-12, in our chruch and the community so that they may grow in their understanding of themselves and the Christian faith, and that their quality of life may be improved.
  • United Methodist Men - To declare the centrality of Christ in the lives of men in all their relationships through regular church attendance, Bible study and fellowship with other Christian brothers.
  • United Methodist Women- To provide programs, resources, and information involved in mission development; and  to develop a creative supportive fellowship of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
  • Health and Welfare Ministry- To involve the congregation through relationships with health and welfare ministries units of the general church, in direct service to specific groups of persons so that their lives may become whole.  Some current activities include:
    • Provide blood pressure screening on the third Sunday of each month in conjunction with a local hospital. 
    • Provide speakers from various hospitals to speak to the congregation on High Blood Pressure and the importance of proper eating and balanced diets.
  • Communications Ministry- Develop and carry out a communications plan and public relations for the church so that members and individuals in the community, others outside of the church, will understand the programs of the church and become interested in participating in the congregations ministry.  Opportunities  include the Web Site, Tape Ministry and Communications Resource Library.
  • COSROW: Status & Role of Women Ministry- Provide activities for approximately 30 to 40 women from St. John, the Community and other churches.  We have guest speakers to speak on topics such as Knowing Yourself, Unveiling Your Mask,  Health Awareness,  which included Breast Cancer and Herbal Products.  We have  scheduled a Red Cross speaker to train and give Education and Certification on Baby Sitting.
  • Membership and Evangelism- Ensure that the congregation reaches out to people with the good news of Jesus Christ and receives them into its care, so that these persons may develop a relationship with God and live as Christian disciples.
  • Worship Ministry- Work with the Pastor and leaders of music ministry to ensure that the congregation is provided and opportunity for worship that will help persons develop and strengthen their relationship with God, so that they may live more faithfully as Christian disciples.
  • Social Concerns- To stress the importance of our church and community to exercise their right to vote -one more person's vote can make a difference in helping to shape our community and our country.  Our goal is to share resources, literature, etc., to keep the lines of communication and dialogue open and to work together to meet the needs of  our church and community and the world.
  • History- To help the congregation document its historical identity.
  • Usher Board - To help the pastor and to make the service a success by putting the congregation in the right frame of mind to receive the message.  Make sure that books, fans, literature, bulletins and envelopes ate ready for distribution or in their proper places and make sure the doors are guarded at all times.
  • Disciple Bible Study - To include Basic Bible Study knowledge in 34 week sessions so that persons with limited Bible knowledge will be comfortable participating in the classes; to provide individual instruction, as needed.  To encourage persons with a desire to teach the Bible to seek God's will and then do what is necessary to help prepare them for the task.
  • Pastor Parish- Support the Pastor and other staff so that these persons can work effectively in managing the ministry of the congregation for witness and service.
  • Trustee Board- Supervise and maintain all property that belongs to the congregation so that the ministries of the congregation can be effective. To fellowship with trustees from other churches.
  • Committee on Finance- Propose, raise, manage and distribute the resources of the congregation to support and strengthen the mission and ministry of the congregation.
