Know-------------Grow---------------Go
With Jesus Christ

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness and into his marvelous light.”
1 Peter 2:9

It is time to think about how you would like to serve your church for the coming year. The Lay Leadership Committee will be coming together very soon to pray about, invite and encourage you to fill key positions of decision-making for our congregation. I ask you to prayerfully consider, in advance, where you can best use your talents, gifts and time in God’s ministry here at Spurgeon. There are a plethora of opportunities for service (from administrative tasks to caring for our facility, working with people or preparing food, dealing with paperwork or feeding the hungry) and all are necessary for the church to fulfill its mission to Know—Grow—Go for Christ. The only thing you need to do once you have prayed about how God can best use you, is take time to let me know. That’s it. Nothing complicated about it, simply find an area where you believe God can use you and I will pass the information along to the Lay Leadership Committee.

Now for the reasons for volunteering: First, God has called us all to be part of the royal priesthood (read 1 Peter 2), and you really do make a difference. What you do matters in the life of this congregation and to those whom God has called to serve. Another good reason to participate in ministry by volunteering is that you have a spiritual gift, special talent or some expertise that no one else may have.

In addition, there are some other benefits. Working with others provides a unique opportunity for fellowship. Not to mention that you will have the chance to grow as you learn from others and gain proficiency in working with others.

Please join me in praying for God’s leading in each of our lives, showing us how each one of us can best serve Him both within and outside of the church. In so doing, I believe that God will give us the insight that we need to volunteer and serve in ministry.

Let me know what you discover.

Love in Christ,

Pastor Melissa
