Encouraging peace through understanding

Shalom

Saying shalom purposefully means to offer a peace treaty, a pledge to live for the other's well being, a convenant to desire and seek the good life of God's favor together.

Shalom was founded on the belief that as we learn the art of caring, we learn how to live at peace as a human being.

Shalom Ministries

"The best communities are those that are willing to carry the burdens of the frailest of their members."

~ Dr. William Thomas, M.D., Creator of the Eden Alternative

Shalom Ministries is a nationwide effort within the United Methodist Church which began in 1992 to create effective ministries in an urban setting. In 1994 Spokane Central United Methodist Church (CUMC) developed its own Shalom Ministries to support the city of Spokane.

Dining with Dignity serves breakfast Monday through Thursday and Monday night dinner, preparing and serving 2,000 to 3,000 meals monthly.

Spokane's Shalom Ministries works in collaboration with Manito United Methodist Church, Moran United Methodist Church, St. John's Cathedral, St. Marks Luthern Church, Spokane Central United Methodist Church, Westminster Congregational Church as well as local agencies such as Kiwanis and Rockwood Lions Club.
