Rev. Helen Brock
Helen has deep Texas roots. Her father's family founded
Brockville (now Bristol), south of Dallas. They were cotton
farmers who migrated from Texas to Oklahoma. Fred Brock, her
father, was an engineer at Texas Instruments. Her dad and
step-mother now live in Tyler.
Helen's mother, Martha, grew up across the street from
Southern Methodist University. Martha's father, Stanley
Patterson, came from Tennessee in 1919 looking for new
opportunity. He was part of the first class at SMU and
stayed on to become the grounds and building superintendent.
Martha's mother's people were the Kerrs, who moved from
Tennessee to McKinney in 1859, and the Ferriers, who
migrated from Scotland to Seymour in 1884. The Ferriers
were stone masons who built courthouses all over west Texas.
Helen was born in Dallas and raised in Houston and Dallas.
She graduated from Richardson High School and earned two
education degrees from East Texas State University. She
taught school for 9 years in Harlingen and McKinney.
After receiving a call to ministry, she earned two theology
degrees from Southern Methodist University.
She was ordained as a deacon in 1983 and as an elder in full
connection in 1990.
Helen has dedicated her ministry to helping
small churches blossom. She has served churches
in Nevada, Josephine, Fort Worth, Tulia, Rising
Star, and May, Texas and Socorro, New Mexico.
Please feel free to call and make arrangements
to discuss your spiritual journey, argue theology,
or just chew the fat with Helen.
