Prayer of Faith :

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve,
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health, that I might do greater things,
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy,
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked fr power, that I might have the praise of others,
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life,
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for--,
but everything I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all persons, most richly blessed.

A film starring Denzel Washington as a small town Virginia football coach who must deal with issues of racial integration on his team. The boys must learn from each other both on and off the field.

Mr. Holland's Opus

Richard Dreyfus stars in a story of a frustrated music teacher who cannot relate to his own mentally challenged son. He learns to communicate through his music and heal the relationships in his life.

It’s a Wonderful Life

The classic holiday movie with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. I cannot watch this m film without getting tears in my eyes each time George discovers what it means to be truly rich.

How Green Was My Valley

I saw this movie for the first time when I was in high school and was very moved by the story of a working class town just trying to get by in life. It is a fascinating portrait of life for those who do not have much in the way of material blessings but are blessed in more important ways.

Field of Dreams

A baseball fable with the immortal line, 'if you build it, he will come.' Kevin Costner plows under a family cornfield in Iowa to construct a baseball filed. All the neighbors think he's crazy. Players from the 'Black Sox' team materialize and play on the field each day. it's a story of redemption and discovering one's purpose in life.

Schindler’s List

During World War II, German businessman Oskar Schindler saved many Jews from extermination in the Nazi camps by allowing them to work in his factory. A marvelous story that reminds us that one person can make a difference in this world.

Steel Magnolias

The story of 5 women whose relationships grow throughout the years. Friendship and unconditional love run throughout the film as you encounter these women over and over.

Finding Nemo

An animated story of a lost fish and the father who goes to great lengths to find him. Nemo is 'disabled' but learns that all creatures are different and special.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

A hilarious comedy about family and tradition. I don't think you can see this one and not see yourself and your family in the characters. I laughed so hard I cried!

About a Boy

Hugh Grant stars in this story of a very selfish and self-absorbed man who must learn to give of himself for another's good. He becomes involved in the life of a pre-teen, who changes his perspective on everything.

Great Reads :

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
The story of siblings who discover a magical land through the back of a wardrobe. Lewis is well-known for his Christian themes and images, and this series continues that. Great for kids and adults

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
A wonderful story of how the life of one person can make a lasting impact on others.

The Book of God by Walter Wangerin
The Bible written as a novel…scripturally accurate and fascinating

The Singer, The Song, and The Finale all by Calvin Miller
Author's fictional account of Matthew, Acts, and Revelation. Written in verse form and easy to read.

The "Left Behind" series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins
These books are great fictionalized re-tellings of the events described in the book of Revelation. Stays true to scripture while helping readers get a picture of what the last days might be like. The last book in the series is due out in April 2007
