SOUTH GATE YOUTH MINISTRY
South Gate has always been concerned about the youth of the community and has attempted to provide a variety of meaningful activities that will give better understanding and enrichment possibilities for the youth seeking to live the Christian life. The influence of the school, the home, and the church are all very necessary to provide the best opportunities for young lives to grow. On this basis, the following opportunities are provided.
YOUTH CHOIR - Spirit Singers

YOUTH ENVELOPES
Offering envelopes are provided for all youth. The South Gate Youth Envelope program is an important part of our total youth program for two reasons:
1. The South Gate Youth are a part of the Nebraska United Methodist youth and because of this connection we have a financial responsibility called the Youth Service Fund. This YSF is used to help Nebraska youth by providing funds for special projects and activities. We have used funds from the YSF for past work camps and may apply for more YSF help for future summer work camps to McCurdy School in Espanola, New Mexico or Red Bird Mission at Beverly, Kentucky. 50% of the money that comes in through the youth envelopes goes to the YSF and this has been taking care of our expected responsibility. ($2.00 for each South Gate Youth member).
2. Stewardship is an important part of responsible Christian living. It is our responsibility to use our talents and skills in the best ways possible to maintain and continue God's creation. Christian stewardship is action and following the example of Jesus Christ does make a difference in our lives. Using the youth envelope is one way that youth can practice responsible Christian living and help promote the work of Jesus Christ in the world.

SOUTH GATE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH - YOUTH CARE FORCE
The South Gate Youth Care Force is comprised of students in Grades 6 through 12. They are enthusiastic young people who wish to share their time and talents with their church family. They know there are many members who may need some assistance or companionship and the Youth Care Force is willing to help. From small tasks to larger projects, the mission of the Youth Care Force is to interact with those that may need a helping hand. By working together, we can become better acquainted and build stronger relationships.

The South Gate Youth Council will be a great assistance in forming the youth program and will be made up of the Sunday Church School teachers of each of the youth classes and at lease one (and hopefully two) representatives from each of the age group classes. The 2004-2005 youth program is basically the result of discussions held by the Youth Council. We have also discussed some ideas about Sunday Church School classes and the material to be used.
Our plan is to meet at least once a month to plan and carry out the activities for the coming month. We will continue to need the help and support of parents to assist with many of our programs in the future. Thanks for your help and if you have any suggestions for our youth program, contact a member of the Youth Council.

* Worship 8:30 & 11:00 a.m. - Regular Schedule
Summer Worship Schedule -- (Begins June 6) -- 9:30 AM Worship & Sunday School -- (Regular Schedule resumes Sept 12.)
Youth are encouraged to be a part of a Sunday morning worship service at either 8:30 or 11:00 a.m. Youth may be asked to serve as Lay Readers, Ushers and Communion Servers.
Driving Policies
The issue of when and where we should allow the youth to drive to our youth activities has become a “hot topic.” Some families are comfortable with their youth driving to these events and others have expressed concerns. The new policy is that when activities are planned away from the church, it will be the responsibility of each family to make their own arrangements regarding transportation. In the past we have carpooled to these activities. Now we are asking that you make the needed arrangements to have your youth arrive at the activity. If you wish to carpool, we encourage you to call other families to arrange your own carpool.
Middle Level Activities - We have a few activities being planned that will involve meeting at the church in which we will provide arranged carpooling.
We have three trips planned outside of Lincoln. For those activities, we are asking that no youth drive to these events. We will be providing adult drivers and will carpool from the South Gate parking lot.
Watch the Key for Updates and Deadlines
We will not be sending out fliers as we did last year, rather we ask that you use this listing of activities and the Key to learn the latest on upcoming youth events. The youth activities will be listed in the Key that is sent out on the 1st of each month. Look for the “Just 4 Youth” banner.
Please note that the deadline for youth items for the Key is the 22nd of each month. If you have signed up to coordinate an activity, we ask that you place a small notice in the Key for the month the activity will occur with specific information about the event. If you are placing information in the Key for the following month, your deadline is the 22nd of the prior month.
Watch for Deadlines
Many of the youth activities have specific deadlines listed. Please note these deadlines and call the contact person prior to the date listed. Several of the activities (like the glow zone bowling) require reservations and cannot be changed after the deadline is passed.
If you have any questions about youth activities, do not hesitate to contact
