Pastor Biography

Pastor Richard C. Hurd

Pastor Dick was born and raised in Addison, NY. He is the middle child of seven children born to Philip and Vesta Hurd. He has three sisters, two brothers, and one deceased brother. Dick graduated from Addison Central School in 1966 and attended Corning Community College and Monroe Community College in Rochester. In January 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Stevens. They lived in Brockport and Albion, NY for the first ten years of their marriage. Dick was employed at Eastman Kodak Company. In 1979, Dick, Barb, and their two children, Paul and Erin, moved back to Addison and built a home on his grandfather's farm in Borden. In 1981, they completed their family with the birth of their daughter, Amy. Dick apprenticed as an electrical contractor with his uncle. Upon his uncle's retirement, Dick purchased the business.

The family attended the Woodhull United Methodist Church and Dick became very involved in that church. In 1991, he attended a Lay-speaking class which led to the United Methodist Church course of study for local pastors. His first charge was the Rathbone and Cameron Mills United Methodist Churches in January 1995. In July, 1996, the Risingville United Methodist Church was added to his charge. Pastor Dick also became the executive director of a mission project, RISE, based in Chatham, NJ. He continued in this appointment for three years. In July, 2003, Pastor Dick was appointed to South Corning United Methodist and retained the Risingville church.

Pastor Dick enjoys woodworking, spending time with his family, reading, and driving his tractor. He also finds it difficult to take time for himself because as he says, "It's hard to take a vacation from a job that you love!". Pastor Dick is a gentle man who finds his guidance in the word of the Lord. He is quiet and listens to what God says to him. His sermons and messages are gospel-based and inspired by God. Pastor Dick feels that he is very fortunate to serve the congregations that have been entrusted to him.
