Pastor Perspective April 2006
|
|
It has indeed been an interesting, although busy Lenten season. Our Wednesday evening services have been well attended, and we have been blessed with a variety of styles of preaching. We have received an even greater blessing with the fellowship we have shared with our brothers and sisters in the other Methodist Churches in the Corning area.
Through these and other events, we have begun to develop relationships that will enable us to have a greater impact for Christ in the community. To quote a friend “I can’t wait to see what God is going to do with us next!” We still have two services left. On Wednesday the 5th, the Addison church will lead us in worship, and on Maundy Thursday, April 13, Corning Grace will provide the leadership. If you haven’t made it to one of these services yet, we would love to see you there.
There is some good news in our family, our daughter, Erin Oliver, will be ordained as an Elder in full Connection to the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church on June 6th and, lo and behold, I will (finally after eleven years) be graduating from the Course of Study School at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC on July 20th. That is, of course, assuming that I will be passing my last two courses.
As you may have noticed this newsletter looks a bit different this month. After several years of faithful work in this area, Nancy and Janet have decided to let others take the helm. We have certainly enjoyed the work of their hands and hearts over the years, and will miss their unique and personal touch that was evident in every issue. Thank you, Ladies, for all your hard work!
In this Easter season we remember the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross to secure our redemption. I pray that each of you may take the time to recognize and give thanks for that wonderful gift. As you may know our Sunday morning attendance has been down in recent weeks, and it concerns me that we so often have “more important things to do” on Sunday mornings. We can be thankful that Jesus didn’t have something more important to do on Friday. Perhaps we should make it our business to tell Him how important He is to us every week. I think Easter would be a great time to start doing that, don’t you?
God’s love and peace to all!
Pastor Dick
