Worship
We have two worship services each Sunday throughout the year.
Our 9 am service is an informal worship time held in the air-conditioned Wesley Room. This service includes special projected images, video, and contemporary music, along with a sermon and our shared prayers. Following the children’s sermon during this service, the children leave for a special Junior Church. Refreshments are served before and after this worship service.
Our later service is a traditional worship service in our awesomely beautiful sanctuary. In the summer it is held at 10:15 am; the rest of the year the second service is at 11 am.
On special occasions in September through May, as noted in the worship calendar on this Web site and in the church newsletter, a single, united Sunday worship service is held in the sanctuary at 10:15 am.

Music
In the room in the far corner of our church basement, the sound of God's praise reigns supreme. In room 7, on a Thursday evening, you’ll find the Chancel Choir preparing two anthems for each traditional service or the Praise Team rehearsing for the contemporary service; Sunday night, the Bell Choir might be preparing the sweet sound of handbell music. Solo singers may be heard in lessons and rehearsal. Drums, kazoos, and boom-whackers have also been known to flourish here. Our emphasis is on choosing the best music written and presenting it with the care and excellence worthy of the worship of God. Special Christmas events such as a Pops Concert, a Christmas Eve service, a musical drama, two major works each year, and other events keep our musical life interesting.
We welcome you to join any of our musical groups. Call the church office at 412.371.7421, or send email to our music director, Janet Lillich Stivanson, at janetS.saumc@verizon.net.

Christian Education
After Labor Day (in September) through mid-June, we offer Sunday School classes from 10-10:45 am for all ages, children through adults. Come and experience the joy and fellowship of our education ministry. Worship and Christian Education can be a family experience.
The children's ministry at South Avenue United Methodist Church celebrates the value and gift of all people. Through our Sunday School and Junior Church programs, we invite children to experience God's love for them through Bible stories, creative play, music, and crafts. Stimulating Sunday School classes are offered for all children and youth at 10 am. During both our 9 am and 11 am worship services, the young children can share the beginning of worship and then go to a Junior Church program after the children’s sermon.
We also offer two adult classes: “Dialogues in Faith,” and the “Fanny Crosby Class.” Dialogues in Faith meets in the
Fanny Crosby Room between the two worship services.
Our format recently has been to
view a stimulating 5-15 minute DVD presentation on a
theological, biblical, historical, or cultural topic. We then
focus on responding to what we have seen .Please join us for a lively discussion.
Throughout the morning, from 9 am-noon, our nursery is staffed with loving, responsible supervision for your convenience.
For more information on any of these programs, contact Beth Riggleman, Children and Youth Minstry Coordinator.
