About Us
Our location: We are located at 58 W. Main Street in the village of Sodus. Look for the red brick church on the corner of Main and Belden Ave. Mapquest directions
Our Staff: We share our pastor, Bong Hee Sung, with the Sodus Point UMC. Our Secretary, Karen, is in the office on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.. Bill and Matt are our custodians and they can be found in the building before and after any scheduled event as well as on Saturday. Donna is our talented organist. She is instrumental in our music ministry. Besides sharing her talent on the organ, she often arranges for special music to compliment our worship. Frequently you will find either Jean Baker or Cindy Rittinger at the piano sharing their expertise through playing the prelude, offertory, or accompanying the choir.
Our history: The United Third Methodist Church of Sodus (originally known as the Methodist Episcopal Church of Sodus) was preceded by two other Methodist Episcopal churches in the area. The first was in Sodus Center and the second on Centenary Road. In 1846 the original stone church at this location was completed. By 1850 it held its first bell. The present parsonage was built in 1847.
In 1889 a new and larger building was erected on this site due to the demands of growing membership. In 1890 a windstorm destroyed the steeple and its bell and damaged the bell tower. The present bell was installed in a new tower in 1893. Other notable changes were:
1910 - Installation of the pipe organ
1950 - Redesign of the chancel and repositioning of the organ
1950's - Addition of Sunday School rooms
1992 - Elevator installed
Our trustees continue to make improvements and are faithful stewards in the building up-keep.
We welcome you to our beautiful church and invite you to join with us as we worship, pray, give, teach and go forth to serve to the glory of God.
