Daily Journal - Day 9 (Monday, Jan. 14)

Butch's Team:  Retha's Dream Team
Team Members:  Butch, Cheri, Marcia, Sara, Nathan, Diane, Jen and Kelli
Insulation to go everywhere!  Ugh!  Nathan you are in charge of installing the windows, Good job, Nathan!

It was great to stand back and see that we had accomplished something  I pray that all our days will be as productive as today.

"Ms. Retha" our home owner greeted us with a smile and had an outside fire burning although the house was quite cold with broken windows and no insulation.  The warm sunshine and hard work warmed us all up as the day went on.

We tore out Retha's kitchen cabinets and countertop.  Discovered a hole in the kitchen floor which needed to be repaired.  We replaced 2 windows, insulated all the walls and ceiling and started putting up drywall on the ceiling.  It was a very productive day.

Butch was under the house with the snakeskins!  Go, Butch!

George and JT's Team:
Team Members:  George, JT, Linda, Janet, Hazel and Sandy
The team (name to be determined later) was assigned to put down wood laminate flooring in a home in Pascagoula. The homeowner, a paraplegic, had purchased the house fairly recently, and was running low on funds after redoing the home to make it wheelchair-friendly.
Hazel - Our homeowner, Rick, shared with us that he had been on a missionary trip when the driver of the bus fell asleep and the vehicle rolled down a 30 foot embankment, severing his spinal cord. He is a real nice gentleman.
J.T. (team co-leader) - We started to prep the 1800 sq. foot floor for laminate flooring. We had to grind down a high spot and fill in some holes to make the floor level.
Linda - J.T. did most of the prep work. I told him that's what he gets for knowing the most. He's more than willing to share his knowledge, and gave me a shot at undercutting the bottom of the doorways to allow room for the flooring - but after two doorways, I decided maybe the master should take back control of the Sawzall. It was a lot harder than he made it look!! I joined Hazel, Sandy and Janet scraping some of the gunk off the great room floor and sweeping up.
Meanwhile... the flooring had arrived but not the underlayment. Rick was very apologetic and called the company who was supposed to be delivering it and was told it would be there by 2:00 - but it wasn't. Our team decided to head out to try and help one of the other Sodus teams who were in another area "mudding". As soon as we left, so did Rick - we THOUGHT for work, but turns out he drove to Gulfport himself in his hand-controlled van, to pick up the rest of the materials. Sounds like we'll be all set to start laying the floor in the morning.
YAY!! We ALL need to be able to start working off this good Southern cooking!!

Al's Team:  "Mudders and Fodders"
Team Members:  Al, Lynn, Jim, Diane, Joyce
Al loved" his week of sheetrocking so much (!!!) last week that he took us back there today.  We worked so hard that we ran out of "mud," which befuddled the "fodders."  We're looking forward to making more progress tomorrow.

Combo Team:  Unnamed Team, Butch and Mudders and Fodders

Butch, and George and JT's team joined Al's team to help out with some "beading" edges and plumbing.  Here are a few interesting shots:
