Jan. 2008 VIM Trip

Worship and Sightseeing Day (Sunday, Jan. 13)

Team Two experienced their FIRST "Mississippi-style" breakfast today ... yummy!!!  Grits, oatmeal, eggs, pancakes, sausage gravy and biscuits, sausage, bacon ... you name it!!!  Then we had our team photo taken in front of Vancleave UMC, and off to Mt. Pleasant for their 9:30 a.m. service.  Pastor Robbie explored baptism.

Off to Dauphin Island with a stop at Mickey D's for a fast lunch.  We visited the Estuarium and enjoyed learning about the Delta area.  On the way back to Vancleave we stopped at a local farm market - unique because the owner is the only person in the area who boils peanuts on the premises. She let Jen stir her boiling brew!

Stopping at the Gulf beach in Gautier we witnessed first hand the devastation left by hurricane Katrina.  We walked through debris of what once was a home.  We also saw the new homes being built on tall pillars ... hopefully to withstand the force of any future hurricanes.

A stop at The Shed for a filling, tasty barbecue left us overstuffed and tired after our busy day.  Diane arrives tonight and our team will be complete.  After a brief team meeting (our FIRST with everyone together) we will turn in to get some much needed rest in preparation for our first work day tomorrow.
