| Gene and Gordon's Team: Let There Be Light! | |||||
| Team Members: Gene, Gordon, Betsy, Marie and Anne | |||||
| Today we worked on the brick home of Debra E. in
Gautier. The men tackled the plumbing problems in the bathroom.
They needed to go get supplies. The women painted and trimmed the
living room and hallway. 6 windows were cleaned, hence the name
"Let there be light!" ... it certainly helped light up the house and our
spirits! The vents were scraped and painted. All bedroom
shelves and doors were painted. The hall closet was painted.
Tomorrow molding, fans, vents, lights, and shelves will be installed. Submitted by Betsy |

| First we made an assessment of where the existing
moldings and doors were located that were supposed to be re-installed.
We made a list of all the things we didn't have with us so we could be
more productive on Tues.
Accomplishments: painted front bedroom walls & ceilings after filling in some holes; installed some missing baseboard and door moldings; washed some windows. Met Maria & her (3) children. The two girls (age 6 & 11) came to the house after school - the school is visible from the house. Maria & her son came to pick them up shortly after they arrived. Learned that the son has many health issues - he nearly died at birth. We expect to see the girls again on Tues. after school. We realized that Maria & her husband are overwhelmed by the magnitude of rebuilding the house and dealing with the health issues of their son. Maria is not able to work due to a disability and also due to the attention needed for her son. She is very grateful for the help - they have not been living in the house for 2 1/2 years. | First day delay due to start of week and adjustment to
routine. Greeted by Oscar and niece. Arrived at house at
approximately 10:30 a.m. The big job of the day was emptying room
packed with clothing, books, cockroaches, etc. so that laminated
flooring could be laid. Floor molding removed and saved; foam pad
laid on cement floor and laminate started. Bathroom toilet and
vanity removed in preparation for laying vinyl flooring; vanity sink and
Formica top cleaned for reuse. Good feeling of accomplishment and
companionable cooperation. Submitted by Jeff |

| We are working on a house today for a man named Mr.
Moody. He needs to have his house reroofed. It was amazing
when he first told us about his family. We found out that Mr.
Moody has 18 kids as well as over 60 grandchildren! The roof had
to be totally stripped and reshingled. However, our team still had
time to bond holding roofing shovels. We completed about half of
the roof. Our team showed major dedication today. We
traveled back to the church over an hour late for dinner in order to
ensure a safe night for Mr. Moody and his family. Submitted by Dylan |

| Our team and Paul H's team (Caton) worked together on a
home about 10 miles away in Ocean Springs. The home is only 2 feet
above sea level. This one story house had 4-6 feet of water in it
from Hurricane Katrina. Our day started slow because of having to get
organized and waiting the arrival of materials (insulation and
sheetrock), We started insulating exterior walls about noon.
We finished that and got about 20 sheets of sheetrock hung. Al
started mudding. Those who were experienced with insulating and
sheetrocking were patient in teaching those that weren't. We won't
be meeting the owner, but we did meet his neighbor who told us the owner
works offshore (maybe on an oil rig). It was a beautiful day -
temperature in the 70's. We are pleased with what we got done.
