Jan. 2008 VIM Trip

Travel Day (Saturday, Jan. 19)

Our morning started with a closing group meeting before breakfast.  As we looked around the circle of our new friends we were reminded that just one week ago we hardly knew each other.  Now we not only have new bonds with our friends at Camp Hope (Lois, Curt, Sally, Marie, Marie, Pastor Robbie, Don, Haven, ...) but bonds with new friends from New York.  We thank God for putting this team together, and we look forward to sharing this experience with others as we "recruit" for next year.

Al, Diane, Sara, Nathan and George left for the airport shortly after our last "Mississippi style" breakfast.  Butch, Cheri, JT, Marcia and Hazel drove off on their homeward bound road trip shortly after that.  Then two trips to the airport with a short sight-seeing excursion to Biloxi got the rest of our team on the way back to frigid New York (it wasn't too warm in Mississippi, either!!!).  The fliers had many waits and stressful decisions to make as Atlanta was experiencing snow, which canceled and delayed many flights.  Sandy opted to fly out on Sunday a.m. as she was "bumped" to a flight which gave her only 9 minutes to change planes in Atlanta.  Back to Camp Hope, she went, and enjoyed an extra evening with Curt, Sally and several Vancleave UMC members.  A trip to Wade, Mississippi found them in "Catfish Point" - a unique restaurant with a lively Bluegrass band entertaining.  This is a "must" for our next trip!!!

Everyone from Week Two arrived safely back home by 8 p.m. on Sunday night (it took Butch's crew a bit longer than expected due to white-outs in Ohio and Pennsylvania).  We thank God for His travel mercies!!!

Praise God for all our rich experiences!   Until our reunion in March ... blessings to all!

Hurry and wait!!!  Waiting to be called to board their flight to Atlanta, Jim, Joyce, Diane, Jen, Kelli and Janet relax.
