Daily Journal - Day 10 (Tuesday, Jan. 15)

Butch's Team:  Retha's Rescuers
Team Members:  Butch, Cheri, Marcia, Sara, Nathan, Diane, Jen and Kelli
Quotable quotes from our day:  "Measure twice, cut once.  Never hammer screws!  Close enough.  I'm not leaving 'til I'm done with this mudding!  I can patch that!  Nate will get it.  Oops, missed that stud.  Anyone have a stud finder?...Nate's the only stud we can find! Cheri sang Nathan the "We love you Nathan" song.

Butch didn't show up from his "other" site til about 2:30 to give us pointers. Nathan was the only man on the job 'til then but did a great job as leader, with the women coming up with answers to most questions.  What a saint!  Another highlight of the day was our lunch outside in the sunshine, it is very quiet and peaceful at Retha's home...no wonder she wants to stay.  The drywall is almost all up in Ms. Retha's house.  Tomorrow we'll finish, put mud on and hopefully start the floor.  It's beginning to look like a home...We were all encouraged by Retha's comments when she arrived home from work.  She loves the cabinets and floor that arrived today and told us she's been thinking about what color drapes she's going to buy...not drapes like the blankets that were previously covering the broken windows, but "pretty ones" she will enjoy looking at and will brighten her room and her spirits.  We've all had our spirits brightened with the chance to help her.

George and JT's Team: henceforth to be known as JT and the Gnarly Kneelers
Team Members:   JT, George, Linda, Janet, Hazel and Sandy
(George) - "Rick met us at the house, his van was unloaded and away we go!!"
(Linda) - "After some experimentation, we got in the groove with J.T. directing (and doing the "problem" pieces), George cutting and the rest of us putting the pieces together. Muscles were aching even before we quit for the day. I predict GIANT doses of ibuprofen when we get out of bed tomorrow - IF we CAN get out of bed!"
(Sandy) - "Oh, my sore knees! But it's worth it! Rick's new living room floor looks great!!! On to the kitchen tomorrow."
(Janet) - "Site maintenance is working; no clutter, no mishaps. Everyone working well together. J.T. is so quiet! Hope everyone is able to stand erect and walk tomorrow. Where did the sunburns come from??"
(Hazel) - "I'm so glad we have a team that pulls together. We accomplished a lot today. J.T. is so quiet! But he is so knowledgeable.  "
JT had no comment.
Al's Team:  "Mudders and Fodders"
Team Members:  Al, Lynn, Jim, Diane, Joyce
We have no reason to be tired and dirty today.  We played in the mud all day!

We met Jackie Peoples the house owner.  Her husband Willy stayed thru the storm and needed to cut a hole in the roof of the garage to escape.  When the water started to recede he was able to get off the roof and make his way to the end of the street where he was able to get to a rescue boat to get to safety.

We learned about flying teeth (gnats) and mole crickets (they make a smaller dirt pile than the red ants do).
