Daily Journal - Day 1 (Sunday, Jan. 6)
The whole team is at Camp Hope!!! The drivers left Friday and arrived yesterday; the jet set got up at 3 a.m. and headed for the Rochester Airport - and arrived in Gulfport ahead of schedule ... at 9:45 a.m. After a scenic drive along route 90 to see the Katrina damage and rebuilding, Bill took us to "What-A-Burger" for lunch!!! (Bill KNOWS all the food chains - isn't it nice to have someone with such expertise on the team!!!)
After choosing beds, making beds, and chilling out for an hour or so, we had our Orientation meeting in the Vancleave UMC sanctuary.
Lois led our Orientation and gave us the history behind Vancleave UMC's involvement in housing Gulfcoast volunteers through UMCOR.
Time for Sunday afternoon relaxation before heading out to dinner at a local barbeque restaurant. To bed early tonight ... tomorrow's a WORK DAY!
The "Shed" offers us "down South" cooking - pulled pork, ribs ... yum!!! Betsy, Marie, Anne, Pete and Gene enjoy their meal.
