Welcome Friends!
Being pastor of the Smithville First, Bright Hill
and La Hermosa congregations is a great joy for me. There is little that
brings me more joy than being a pastor. This page will answer a few
questions about me: Who is that guy in the robe? I am a child of
the church who loves the church and desires with all my heart to care
for it. However, I try to remain aware that the Kingdom of God is
greater than the church and that my task as a Christian, which is more
important than my task as a pastor, is to be in full obedience to
God’s will, whatever that means, costs or entails. What does the preacher believe? When
it comes to doctrine, culture, preferences, traditions, lifestyles,
politics, behavior, etc., I take a “closed-hand/open-hand” approach.
The closed hand hangs onto the non-negotiable tenets of Christian
orthodoxy: principally the dual commandments of Jesus to “love the
Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind…. And love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22)
This, through the power of the Resurrection, is the foundation of
the church. What does the preacher do? My job is to preach, administer the sacraments, visit, teach and guide the life of the church. |
