AN OPEN INVITATION Change is good. How much time have we all spent casually, mindlessly watching literally thousands of 30 second TV commercials and completely missed the virtue of some of the world’s timeless wisdom? Like the captivating wisdom revealed in the book of Ecclesiastes, "There is a time for…" We too embrace change. We are giving you this special invitation to join Smithville First United Methodist’s newest, reorganized, rededicated, adult Sunday School class – Ecclesia. Are YOU ready for a change? Well, if you are a new member of our congregation, or an old member, or if you’re not a member at all – this class is for you. If you are age 18 to 98 – you’ll fit right in. If you are a sinner – you will be welcome. If you’re a saint, we’ll tolerate you. If you are married or single – come on over. If you are a part time theologian – we need you. If you rarely open the Bible – we want you. If you have attended church all your life – you’ll feel right at home. If you rarely set foot in the door – our doors will be open for you. If you are short or tall – we have chairs that fit. If you are Southern born – we want you. If you’re a Yankee transplant – we’ll take you – I reckon. If you don’t know what "reckon" is – we’ll teach you. If you’re shy – you’ll be comfortable with us. If you’ve never met a stranger – we’ll introduce you to one. If you are male or female – we’ll accept you. If you have blonde, brunette, black, red, gray, or no hair – no problem, we encourage diversity. (Although there may be a screening test for red heads) Are you beginning to see the wonderful, diverse picture here? What will happen in this class? Well, we might sing a little and we will pray a little. We’ll probably laugh a lot and cry a little. We’ll study a lot and hopefully learn a little. We’ll share a little and talk a lot. We’ll talk and think about the questions that really matter. Together, we’ll learn about life – how to live it and live it abundantly. Change is good. Who teaches this class? Well, we’re just an eclectic band of disciples who take our faith more seriously than we take ourselves. When and where? This Sunday at 10 AM, in the CFC community room. This is the Methodist Church annex. It is located on Church Street next to Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. What can you do to be really prepared? Memorize Mark chapter17, or just read the scripture lesson from the schedule on our Home page. Not quite ready for this much change? That’s OK; there are four other wonderful adult Sunday School classes meeting at the same time. Sunday School is good. Sitting at home reading the newspaper until 10:30 is not good. God is good. Friends are good. Learning, talking and sharing are all good. Change is good. Do you have any questions? I’m sorry but you’ll have to come and ask them in person. If you’re searching for new meaning in life, we invite you to come and join us this week. Our hearts, our minds, and our doors are always open. We hope to see you Sunday! |
