BIBLE VERSES TO KEEP IN HEART AND TO LEARN FROM

“We do not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future…”  “Do not do unto others, what you do not want others do unto you.”  “He who wins the war writes the history book.”  These are just a few of the rich sayings that I know by heart… one way or another, they help me understand who we are, and who we are not.  In this Season of Lent, allow me to share with you 40 of my favorite Bible verses. I have memorized some of them, and I am still memorizing the others. Please take a moment to reflect on each of these verses from the Bible… and let the Holy Spirit work through you and in you as we await the Coming of the Risen Christ!

1.     Genesis 1:27-28  So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God, he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”

2.     Matthew 7:24   Everyone who hears these words and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

3.     Matthew 25:40  Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.

4.     Matthew 24:35  Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

5.     Matthew 4:4  One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.

6.     Matthew 4:19  Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men.

7.     Matthew 5: 8  Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

8.     Matthew 5:4  Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

9.     Matthew 6:20-21  Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven… for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

10.  Matthew 27:54  Now when the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were terrified and said, “Truly this man was God’s son!”

11.  Micah 6:8  What does the Lord required of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

12.  Mark 9:35  Whoever wants to be first, must be last of all and servant of all.

13.  Mark 9:37  Whoever welcomes one such child in my name, welcomes me and whoever welcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.

14.  Mark 14:36  Take this cup from me, Yet not what I will, but what you will.

15.  John 11:25-26   I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.

16.  John 3:16-17   For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

17.  John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

18.  John 1:23  I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord.

19.  John 10:10  I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

20.  John 14:12-14  Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, and in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.

21.  John 15:12  This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

22.  John 1:29  Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

23.  Mark 9:49-50  For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good; but if salt has lost its saltiness, how can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.

24.  Mark 10:14  Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.

25.  Mark 10:15  Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.

26.  Mark 10:25  It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

27.  Joshua 24:15 …. As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

28.  Psalm 46:1  God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

29.  Psalm 91:1-2 You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God in whom I trust.”

30.  John 4:24  God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

31.  Psalm 96:1  O sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Lord, all the earth.

32.  Hebrews 10:22-23  Let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering…

33.  John 16:33  I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world!

34.  Ephesians 4:4-6  There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

35.  Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

36.  Philippians 3:13-14  Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.

37.  James 1:5  If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you.

38.  James 4:12  There is one lawgiver and judge who is able to save and to destroy. So who, then, are you to judge your neighbor?

39.  1 Peter 3:12  For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.

40.  Revelation 22:12-13  See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone’s work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.
