VIDEOS FOR SOCIAL CONCERNS

For Children

In Love Thy Neighbor (VCP-346), Lenny, a shy day-dreaming rabbit, and Sid, a powerhouse of a mouse meet for the first time.  In this animated story, two totally different personalities find true friendship because of their differences and in spite of driving each other nuts.  They find that God is the one thing they have in common.

For Youth and Adults

Suicide devastates family members for many years.  In Fierce Good-bye

(DVP-536) family survivors reveal their stories and pain to assist other survivors and to help the broader community understand the unique and terrible grief of suicide.  This documentary explores Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, and Greek orthodox responses to suicide.

For Adults

A one-hour study session uses the video, Domestic Violence:  What Churches Can Do (VCM-690), to present basic consciousness-raising on the issue of domestic violence.  It provides concrete ideas about how congregations can become involved and can offer a safe space for battered women in the church to come forward.  The video recommends referring battered women and batterers to appropriate community service providers who are experts in the field.

Bioethics and the Book of Life (VCI-512) includes some of the best stories from the public television series, "Religion and Ethics," on a wide variety of current issues in bioethics.  Some of the questions discussed are:  How might scientific advances in stem-cell research transform human life?  What is the role of religion and ethics in grappling with the choices the new genetic knowledge presents?  Have the responses of theologians, ethicists, etc., kept up with the accomplishments of science and technology?  A 24-page full--color guide is included.

The mission of the Conflict Transformation Team is to develop a ministry of reconciliation within the Conference that supports healthy local congregations through the teaching of relationship building, conflict resolution and cooperative decision-making.

Does your congregation struggle with indecisiveness in decision-making?

Is there a tendency to ignore, deny, or move too quickly through important and sensitive situations within the congregation?
Are there special interest groups that seem to foster conflict and separation?
Do people personalize the conflict by focusing on the people instead of the problem?
