KULDIGA SUPPORTING CHURCHES PONDER THE NEXT STEP
Members of the Norris, Sinking Springs, and Faith United Methodist Churches met on August 19, 2007 to view trip photos, evaluate the mission experience and decide the next steps in our support for the Kuldiga United Methodist Church.
After viewing photos of our mission trip, team members suggested ways to improve the next team visit to Latvia. Next time we would like to train local church members how to lead a vacation Bible school. Team members also expressed the need for more advertising in Kuldiga before the beginning of the VBS.
Most all team members were pleased with the mixture of work, VBS, Adult Bible Study and sightseeing.
Ideas were presented about the best way to continue our support for the Kuldiga United Methodist Church; these include to raise money for an organ, support lay speaker training, train local people to lead VBS, teach crafts, seek other Methodist churches to join us in supporting the Kulidga UMC and/or other churches in Latvia, increase the amount each church is giving to the church through the General Board of Global Ministries, help Kuldiga get a full-time Methodist minister, and begin fund-raising to help pay some of our travel expenses for another trip.
Another meeting of the three churches has been set for September 23 to decide what steps we can take to most effectively support the Kuldiga United Methodist Church.
BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED
The next person to need blood could be you. Elective surgery, premature births, trauma, leukemia, heart disease, injury; these are just a few of the reasons that ninety-five percent of us will need blood in some form before we reach age seventy-two.

On Tuesday, September 25, 2007, the Methodist Men of the Norris United Methodist Church will sponsor a blood drive with Medic Regional Blood Center, sole supplier of hospitals in our area. The drive begins at 12:00 noon and ends at 8:00 pm.

Most healthy people 17 years old and older, weighing at least 110 pounds can donate if they are not on certain medication and have never had certain illnesses.

If we achieve our goal of donations from 30 percent of our members, then our entire congregation will receive one year’s blood coverage. Persons outside our church can provide family blood coverage by donating.

You may not be rich, but you have something money can’t buy and it’s yours to share. It’s blood. Every time you donate, you can be saving the lives of several people.
