A Corporate Charter to organize a Methodist Society was issued May 22, 1868 in Silver Lake.  In 1877, The Methodist Episcopal Church was organized and a building committee was elected

The ground breaking ceremony was held in May of 1878.  The building dedication was held in December.  There was a membership of 50 people.  In 1906 Silver Lake's first church owned parsonage was acquired.

Our annual Harvest Home dinner/bazaar began in 1936, and remains today, the larges money making project for the UMW.

In 1939 The Methodist Church formed from a union of The Methodist Episcopal, The Methodist Episcopal South, and The Methodist Protestant Churches.

In 1963, the new parsonage adjacent to the church was built.

In 1968, The Methodist Church and The Evangelical United Brethren Churches joined together to form The United Methodist Church.

The church building was destroyed by fire on March 20, 1984.

Through the ashes, a resurrection took place.  A new church building was erected and ready for occupancy on December 1, 1985.

Silver Lake United Methodist Church continues to provide important ministries to the community.  This is a testimony to the strength of our Church, and the presence of Christ in our lives.

"...on this rock I will build my Church."

Matthew 16.18
