How to Trust God

1. Be honest.
When bad things happen, it’s only natural to feel anger and fear. Sometimes you may even be mad at God. (But don’t worry—He totally understands.) Pray about your feelings. Talk to an adult you trust about how you feel. Writing in a journal may help, too. The important thing is not to keep your emotions bottled up inside.

2. Grow a grateful heart.
Concentrate on what you do have, rather than what you don’t: a phone call from your best bud, a good grade on a pop quiz, a surprise letter from your grandma, a night when your whole family eats dinner together. If you look for the good things in your life, you’ll find them.

3. Take action.
Often doing something for someone else can help you feel better about your own situation. So do something! Offer to drive your little brother to Little League practice, organize a bingo tournament at a senior citizens’ home, collect canned goods for a local food pantry, volunteer at the public library. Helping others is a sure way to lift their spirits—and yours.

4. Remember Who’s in control. We can’t always make sense of what happens to us. That’s because we see only a tiny piece of the picture . . . but God’s got the whole picture. Even when your life feels out of control, remember: He’s still all-powerful—and all-loving. No one or no thing can ever separate you from God’s love!

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”--Romans 8:37 (NIV)
