Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. it seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat is a worldwide, grassroots movement with more than 2,300 active affiliates in more than 90 countries, including all 50 states of the United States.
The Sikeston Habitat for Humanity Project is currently under the umbrella of the Cape Area Habitat for Humanity Chapter.
That chapter has successfully completed 25 houses over the past 21 years with the goal of completing 25 more houses over the next five years. All of their assistance is at no cost to the Sikeston Habitat project, and all donations earmarked for the Sikeston Habitat for Humanity will be used locally.
Homeowner families are chosen according to their need; their ability to repay the no-profit, interest-free mortgage; and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate according to race, religion or ethnic group. Habitat houses are purchased by the homeowner families.
