Pastor Tim's Teen Talk

Last week our family went away on vacation. Since my parents live in Florida we had the opportunity to take our two youngest daughters to Disney’s Magic Kingdom . Yes – it is magical! It is amazing to watch people as they walk throughout Magic Kingdom capturing every moment. Little kids try to meet every Disney character as their parents take pictures of everything in sight.

One place that caught my attention was the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. This boutique is a beauty salon that magically transforms little girls into little princesses. The boutique claims your daughter will feel as happy as a princess in this charming little boutique, owned by Cinderella's Fairy Godmother and operated by Fairy Godmothers-in-training. Wow! I have to admit, many little girls were coming out of that boutique transformed into princesses.

As the day progressed, another transformation took place. As the 95 degree weather beat down on these little princesses their attitudes and disposition completely changed. As a matter of fact, by the end of the night I noticed several transformed princess lying on the ground crying to go home. I did feel bad for them because our two non-transformed daughters felt the same way. It made me consider what transformation is really about.

The Bible tells us in Romans 12:2 to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind”. I am convinced that many of us walk through life having a Bibbidi Bobbidi make-over. On the outside we look like we are fine and in charge of our own lives. However, on the inside we live stressed, painful, and confused lives. God indeed wants and knows what is best for us. His transformation starts on the inside and flourishes outward. This transformation can only happen by consistently reading and knowing His Word. As the Bible states in Psalms 119:105, “Your word oh Lord is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path” This summer when life beats down on you turn to God. An internal transformation lasts forever whereas an external transformation lasts for a moment.
