Red Bird Mission in Kentucky.
We’ve pledged $1,000 a year to help support a missionary family at the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky. Reed and Barbara Brock are the pastor and wife in Helton, Kentucky, a very rural and poor section of Appalachia. The Brocks have two sons: John who is 15 and Jeremy who is 13. Barb’s 80 year old mother completes their household and also serves as church pianist. The Brocks went to work as a part time local pastor at the Red Bird Missionary Conference in June of 1996, where they serve two small but growing United Methodist Churches. Both Reed and Barbara were born in the Red Bird Mission Hospital, and grew up in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky. This is a second career for Reed. He worked in the regions coal mines for 10 years before leaving to run his own store for twelve years. During this time he experienced God’s call to ministry and has now completed his 3rd year in the Course of Study in his quest to become a fully ordained UM pastor. Barbara’s parents also served churches at the Red Bird Mission for 31 years.

WE COLLECT THESE ITEMS WEEKLY
FOR MISSIONS >>

Non-perishable food items for the Food Pantry. These are placed on the table in the lobby. There is usually a handout available there listing those foods and supplies that are especially needed.

DO YOU PREFER TO GIVE MONEY RATHER THAN FOOD?

Our food donations that we place on the table in the narthex (lobby) during the months of January, March, May, July, September, and November go to New Hope Ministries here in Mechanicsburg. During the months of February, April, June, August, October, and December these food donations go to the Ecumenical Food Bank in Harrisburg. If you prefer to write a check rather than bringing food to church, make it payable to Shepherdstown U.M.C. with a notation of either: "New Hope" or "Ecumenical Food Bank" and drop it in any offering plate.

Pull Tabs from aluminum soda cans for the Ronald McDonald House at Hershey Medical Center. Please place in plastic bags on the table in the lobby.

Campbell’s Soup Labels for the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, the Neighborhood Center in Harrisburg, and the McCurdy School in New Mexico. Please place inside the wooden boxes mounted near the exterior exits.

General Mills Box Tops for Education for the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky. Please place inside the wooden boxes mounted near the exterior exits.

Cancelled Stamps are sold by various mission projects to stamp collecting companies and the proceeds go to support mission work. You can place stamp donations in a small plastic bag and then deposit them in the wooden Response Boxes mounted just inside all three main exits.
