Welcome! My doors officially
opened on December 8th, 1902, but my beginning originated with
William Wesley Van Orsdel (Brother Van, as he was
better known). During the fall of 1872, Brother Van visited farms and ranches in
the area. Following Brother Van, the "Cowboy Preacher," Rev. A.W. Hammer came to
the area and became the first appointed pastor when I became an organized church
on April 2, 1902. Since that time I have seen many changes within the community

The Shelby Community United
Methodist Education Fund was started in May of 1982. Any student who is a member
of our church can apply for financial aid through our church. The late Robert G.
Anderson, a local attorney and long-time member of our church, was instrumental
in setting up this Education Fund. You can support the Shelby Community United
Methodist Education Fund with donations of cash or property. The Education Fund
is administered by the Education Committee. Applications and complete
information are available from the church office. Applications are reviewed on a
first-come, first-served basis. Applicants may reapply each semester by
submitting their grade transcript from the previous semester to the Education
