Welcome! My doors officially opened on December 8th, 1902, but my beginning originated with William Wesley Van Orsdel (Brother Van, as he was better known). During the fall of 1872, Brother Van visited farms and ranches in the area. Following Brother Van, the "Cowboy Preacher," Rev. A.W. Hammer came to the area and became the first appointed pastor when I became an organized church on April 2, 1902. Since that time I have seen many changes within the community of Shelby and within my congregation. My current sanctuary (which you can see on this web page) was completed in the early ‘30’s and remodeled into it’s current form in 1953. An addition of the entry, office, Wesley room, education rooms and restrooms was completed in 1966. I have been blessed with being able to watch children grow into young adults, marry and baptize their own children, and grandchildren into the church. I have also been witness to the passing of many dear friends, taking comfort in the knowledge that they are in the gentle hands of our dear Lord. But mostly I look forward to meeting new faces as we come together in worship and praise of God. May the new faces that pass through my doors know that they can find comfort, friendship, support and the love of Jesus Christ within my walls! I hope you will come and see me and join all my dear friends who use my facilities for worship, education, prayer, fellowship, feasts, and fun!

The Shelby Community United Methodist Education Fund was started in May of 1982. Any student who is a member of our church can apply for financial aid through our church. The late Robert G. Anderson, a local attorney and long-time member of our church, was instrumental in setting up this Education Fund. You can support the Shelby Community United Methodist Education Fund with donations of cash or property. The Education Fund is administered by the Education Committee. Applications and complete information are available from the church office. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants may reapply each semester by submitting their grade transcript from the previous semester to the Education Fund Committee. Students who attend Rocky Mountain College, and who receive money from our Education Fund, are eligible for up to $500 in matching funds from Rocky. A ‘C’ average is required, but otherwise, financial need is the primary consideration in the awarding of Educational Funds. Applicants are not required to repay Education fund grants. They are asked to consider, when they are employed, that their donations could help someone else.
