  • Help Build New Retreat Center at UM Shasta Camp

Please spread the word among your congregations that volunteers are needed at the UM Shasta Camp to help with the construction of a new retreat center. Both skilled and those willing to learn and help are needed. Fifteen to twenty volunteers are required daily from June into October. Teams, large and small, as well as individuals are welcome. The only cost will be a donation for meals.  Pooled transportation will cut  travel costs. This historic Methodist Camp is located about eight miles west of the town of Mt. Shasta at the 5,000 foot level, affording a breath-taking view of the mountain. For information or application contact: Doyle Martin, 530 238-8831(doyleshirl@awwwsome.com) Box 718, Lakehead, CA 96051

  • "Laying the Foundation" fund raiser for Shasta Camp

The Shasta Camp Committee will launch its 2004 Financial Drive, "Laying the Foundation," in March. The goal is to raise $100,000, which is needed for the construction of the new Multi Purpose Building. Letters with a brochure and poster will be mailed to each church. The committee asks that the members of our churches be made aware of the new addition for the camp and the need for funds. This new addition will make the camp even more useful for our churches and families. There will be a large meeting room, which will accommodate 70 people, a kitchen, two bedrooms downstairs and a double dormitory upstairs, which will sleep about 40 people. There will be two bathrooms and showers in the building, in addition to those in Babylon, the present shower and restroom facility. The total cost will be over $250,00, plus the cost of related work on the road, the water and electricity generating systems. The Committee is counting on volunteer labor to accomplish most of the construction.Look for the early March mailing regarding the "Laying the Foundation" campaign. The committee would welcome invitations for speakers to come to your church to tell about the camp and the exciting plans.

All of the churches of the district should have received a letter
concerning the "Laying the Foundations" fund drive for UMC Shasta Camp. Included with the mailing was a flyer for posting intended to inform the church (and individuals) about this opportunity to assist in providing funds for the construction of a new retreat center on the beautiful grounds. We expect to break ground this August.

If your flyer has not been posted, we ask you to do so.  If you need
another flyer, please contact Rev. Pat McCallister at the Dunsmuir or Mt.
Shasta Church office.  We are depending on support from the churches, as the camp committee seeks to support you with a wonderful facility for your use and ministry.  If you would like to arrange for a speaker to tell about the camp and our plans, please contact Pat McCallister (530) 235-1924 <orofino2@sisqtel.net>; or Dave Wolf (408) 268-5826 <mdflow@earthlink.net>.
Thank you.
