Pastors are encouraged to utilize
Lay Speakers to fill their pulpits whenever possible if the pastor
is ill, on vacation, or must be away for any other reason. Please
contact James Horton, the District Director of Lay Speaking, to obtain
a speaker or if you would like additional information about this
special ministry of the laity. James Horton may be reached by phone
at (530) 243-8832 or by email at jyh@c-zone.net.
SHASTA DISTRICT SCHOOL FOR WITNESS AND
SERVICE
The purpose of the training is to enable those who
are interested in becoming Lay Speakers to become a part of a very
important United Methodist Lay Ministry. Participants receive valuable
skill development training in order to prepare them to serve as Lay
Speakers.
If you are not yet a Lay Speaker and would like to
become one, you may enroll in one of the basic courses. If you are
a Local Church Lay Speaker and want to become certified, you may
enroll for an advanced course. If you are already a Certified Lay
Speaker, you are reminded that you must complete an Advanced Course
at least once every three years to retain your certification as a
CLS.
