The first Methodist parsonage was purchased in 1858. It is said by the county historians to be the oldest brick dwelling in Summerville. This parsonage served as home for the pastors until 1947 when it was sold to Mrs. Horace England. This residence is located at 105 North Congress Street.
The E.W. Sturdivant Memorial Church School Building was added on the church building in 1940. This annex included a large assembly hall, classrooms, and a kitchen.
The present educational wing was completed in the year 1955 at a cost of $30,000. The Reverend H. Frank Barfield was the pastor at that time.
A new parsonage was purchased on adjoining land in 1989. The parsonage used from 1947-1989 was convertedto an office building with additional classrooms.
A playgroung was added to the church grounds in 1992. A toddler's nursery was established along with an additional bathroom there upstairs. A Mother's Day Out program was implemented in 1992 to expand the children's ministry. The program began with two classes and a total of 18 children. In the 1993-1994, the program expanded to three classes and 24 children. Currently, there are classe, and children. On April , 1998, the Summerville First United Methodist Web-page was established.
