Archives & History in the Southeastern Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church

The SEJ Commission on Archives & History
and The Heritage Center

The Commission is charged with the responsibility of collecting, preserving, arranging for use, and interpreting for educational purposes the history of the United Methodist Church, especially in the Southeastern Jurisdiction and the history of Lake Junaluska Assembly. We train those with conference record keeping responsibilities, local church historians, and others concerned about our history. No collection is complete, so we must continue to collect and preserve, that all may remember, understand, and grow.

The Wesleyan heritage is especially rich within our boundaries. It is a channel of grace which can bring abundant blessings to both church and state. We must share that redeeming history. The Heritage Center is designed so our people might identify more strongly with the ideas, struggles, and triumphs which mark our uniqueness as United Methodists. The Center is a people-oriented place where all persons can see attractive visual displays of United Methodist history and feel the pulse of our Wesleyan heritage. It is a bright place enticing passersby to turn aside and experience the heartbeat of a living tradition.
