South Central Jurisdiction
Elects Leaders at Abilene Meeting

United Methodist Women met in Abilene, Texas, June 22-24, 2012, for the South Central Jurisdiction Quadrennial Meeting.

Just as Mary responded to God's call by singing, glorifying, and praising, United Methodist Women continue to respond to that same love and grace through our call to Mission.

Ilda Vasquez of Weslaco, Texas, presided over the meeting as the outgoing President. Edna Brown Hickmon of Baton Rough, Louisiana, is the newly elected President of the South Central Jurisdiction.

SOUTH CENTRAL JURISDICTION UMW

United Methodist Women from 15 conferences in the South Central Jurisdiction assemble every 4 years to celebrate, to lift up, to learn, and to return to their communities better equipped for mission. Tens of thousands of women have been meeting in this fashion since 1942 in a unified effort to stay at the forefront of the work being done both locally and globally, both systemically and in charity, to improve and sustain the lives of women, children and youth.

The 15 conferences who are a part of the South Central Jurisdiction are:

  • Arkansas
  • Kansas East and Kansas West
  • Louisiana
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • New Mexico
  • Oklahoma and Oklahoma Indian Missionary
  • Rio Grande
  • Texas, Central Texas, North Texas, Northwest Texas and Southwest Texas

THE PURPOSE OF QUADRENNIAL MEETING

There shall be a meeting of the jurisdiction organization of United Methodist Women during the last year of the quadrennium. At that time, the Jurisdiction President and Leadership Team shall be elected, and directors of the National Organization of the United Methodist Women shall be elected according to The Book of Discipline.

PURPOSE OF UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Women Responding

Mary said, " I'm bursting with
God-News; I'm dancing the
song of my Savior God.
God took one good look at me,
and look what happened - I'm
the most fortunate woman
on earth! " Luke 1:4
6-48
