The Mission Work of United Methodist Women . . .

The Rev. R. Randy Day has assumed the leadership of the General Board  of Global Ministries.  In an interview of the current issue of Mission Today magazine, he talks about what he feels should be the mission of the church in the next 4 years.  This magazine is available in the UMW bookcase in the parlor at church.

In the stories of faith column of the same issue is a story of a woman in Lithuania  named Jadwyga who started going to the Methodist church in her village.  She first went in through the basement getting a hot meal, usually the only meal she had during the day.  Her sister started attending services and finally talked Jadwyga into attending the services.  Jadwyga became a regular on the back bench in the corner.  However she never took communion.  The missionary asked her why.  Shad said, "I'm too angry.  You don't know all I've seen in my life.  All this talk of love-it's not as strong as the hurt I feel.  I can't forgive and I can't be forgiven.  The months went on and Jadwyga continued to attend. At the communion table  one Sunday, the missionary felt a squeeze on her shoulder.  It was  Jawyga with tears streaming down her face.  Since then Jadwyga can be seen a two tables in the church-the communion tables where she receives the bread of Life, and the basement table where she shares the food to live with others.

Come to the table.  It's long enough for people around the world to gather there.  It's a place where "we press on to make (the resurrection) our own, because Christ Jesus has made us  His own."(Philippians 3:12).

No Fall Rummage Sale

Don’t despair! None have stepped forward to chair a fall rummage sale, but …. the spring rummage – perennial sale is planned for the end of April 2004. So find a storage place for all that rummage that is piling up at your place and bring it out “come spring” to benefit UMW projects such as Mechuwana camperships.
