Prayers and Resources for Prayer
Glory Be to the Father (Gloria
Patri) Prayer of Serenity God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; and Wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen. - Reinhold Niebuhr, 20th Century Morning Prayer My Heavenly Father, I thank You, through Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son, that You kept me safe from all evil and danger last night. Save me, I pray, today as well, from every evil and sin, so that all I do and the way that I live will please you. I put myself in your care, body and soul and all that I have. Let Your holy Angels be with me, so that the evil enemy will not gain power over me. Amen. - Martin Luther, 16th Century Evening Prayer My Heavenly Father, I thank You, through Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son, that You have protected me, by Your grace. Forgive, I pray, all my sins and the evil I have done. Protect me, by Your grace, tonight. I put myself in your care, body and soul and all that I have. Let Your holy angels be with me, so that the evil enemy will not gain power over me. Amen. Martin Luther, 16th Century Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. St. Francis of Assisi, 13th century Most high, glorious God enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me, Lord, a correct faith, a certain hope, a perfect charity, sense and knowledge, so that I may carry out your holy and true command. Francis of Assisi, 13th century Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous; teach me to serve You as You deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for reward save that of knowing I am doing Your Will. Sandy
Dunton, Justine and myself have been serving on a Committee to raise funds for
the MacPherson family. The next two pages in this newsletter are copies of the
mailing we have been
sending out. They explain why the money is needed. To date we have
raised over $16,000. We did not
want to give out the mailing list here at School Street and decided we would
have a special collection and forward the money to the National Transplant
Assistance Fund in the name of the School Street United Methodist Church. As of this
writing, Jean has had her transplant; and thank God, she has come through the
surgery and is doing very well. Now expenses for future treatment and
medicines really begin to mount! On Sunday, October 12th, we will be having a
special collection for Jean and would request that your donation on that Sunday be placed
in an envelope marked “Jean”. Checks can be made payable to the School Street
UMC. If you can’t make it to church on that day, would you please send your
donation to: Church Secretary, School Street UMC P.O.
Box 607 Gorham, ME 04038 Thank you so
much for any assistance you can give. If there was ever a benevolence that was
close to home and close to the heart, this is it. Thank you on behalf of Jean
and Andrew.
