HISTORY:
At a meeting on Sunday, January 25, 1920 plans were made and officers elected for a mission in Sawyerwood. A lot was accepted from Arthur B. Tritt, a local resident, for the building of a church. On April 28, 1921, it was decided that the new church would be part of the Evangelical Church.
Rev. C. W. Winch was the first pastor of this new mission, called The Community Church. Rev. Winch and Lawrence Sowers dug the basement, with ground removed by horse-drawn wagon. On January 20, 1924 the existing church building was dedicated by Bishop S. Spring. The church remained Evangelical until 1948, when there was a merger with the United Brethren Church. Then, in 1968 the Evangelical United Brethren merged with the Methodist church, changing the name again, to Sawyerwood United Methodist Church.
Throughout 80+ years, and several name changes, the "little white church" in Sawyerwood has been, and remains home church to area folks who gather to worship and serve the Lord.
