SUMC Facilities
Our facilities consist of the main Sanctuary,
a Fellowship Hall, and our Faith
& Ministry Center (F&MC) as shown in the location map
below. Note F&MC is located across Foundry Street from the Fellowship
Hall.

Our Sanctuary
Our Sanctuary was constructed in 1888 before electricity and indoor
plumbing. It has an A-frame ceiling reaching 30 feet at its highest
point with exposed wooden beams and iron bracing. The windows were
originally clear glass with the stained/painted glass windows being
installed in the 1940's. At some point, the Sanctuary was lit with
natural gas. Gas lines for two sconces which were located behind
the altar remain - now hidden by the drapery. In the 1940's, the
men of the church and the Boy Scouts hand dug a basement below the
sanctuary, installing a furnace and indoor restrooms (both since
moved to the Fellowship Hall). The sanctuary is frequently used
for theatrical productions put on by our Drama Club. Sanctuary seating
capacity is approximately 125.
Fellowship Hall
Fellowship Hall is located in the education addition constructed
in 1959 for a cost of $65,000. In addition to the large meeting
room, it houses a kitchen and stage on the main floor with classrooms
and restrooms located in the basement. Stained glass windows that
were previously located on the east side of the sanctuary were relocated
to the hall facing Baltimore Street. Seating capacity is approximately
125 for meetings and 80 for banquets.

Faith & Ministry Center
Our Faith & Ministry Center is located in a 1900 farm house
across Foundry Street. It was purchased in 1997 to provide additional
classrooms and church offices. Several garages once used for auto
repair were renovated into two large classrooms. The largest classroom
is equipped with a movable divider to create two meeting rooms.
The first floor of the farmhouse contains offices for the pastor
and secretary. The second floor contains a two bedroom apartment
which is currently being converted into a rental unit.
