Rutland United Methodist Women

Secretary/Treasurer Report

Date: 20 October 2009        Place:  Church Parlor w pellet stove.

Attendees: (13), Karen Barnouw, Faith Berg, Betty Corey, Pastor Deb, Beth Fernandes, Marj Hodgson,  Blanche Kelley, Edith Partridge, Elaine Proctor, Sue Smith, Jan Sodergren,  Charlotte Steel, Gwen White.  (We missed those who could not be with us.)

. Secretary/Treasurer Reports: Copies of the May meeting were mailed or given at church, and read today. Pledges to date are:  $514.   Two pledge payments were made today.  We are $286 short of goal (after today’s cks).  Think about it?  We need to make the payments designated in our budget.  Thank you notes for our gifts were read.

Devotions: Elaine Proctor

Sunshine:  balance $18.36. We signed cards for Gary Service, Celestine Hall, Beulah Lanfear, Mary Colomb and for Jan who is going for surgery tomorrow.

Business:

·       It was requested that the women who go to UMW meetings should be reimbursed for the registration fees, as they represent all of us, and should not have to pay out so much.  It was voted down, and tabled until next year.

·        Letter from Conference Treas suggested that we pay  only half the usual pledge to Troy Conf as we will be with NewEngland Conf after June 30th.  It was voted that we do this.  ($75)

·       Karen passed around a nice ThankYou  poster that showed the number of Kits for Kids that we had sent. (from Baptist Church in Bennington.)

·       Nov 6 will be World Community Day at St.Peter’s Church.

·       Jan 9: Church Women United needs a church to host the meeting.

·       Charlotte read a review from a book she read: William Sheppard, “Congo’s African American Livingstone”

·       Edith asked for names of prospective beneficiaries of shawls.

·       Blanche said that all banners that have hung in the Chapel are rolled up and stored for future use.

·       Blanche told about her daughter and others who make perky pillow cases for children who are cancer patients; suggested that we could do that.

·       On June 10th Charlotte, Celestine and Karen went to the Jonesville Methodist Church for the last meeting with Troy Conference, which was a bit emotional.

·         On July 16-19 Charlotte also went to Summer Learning Fellowship at Holiday Inn, which cost her $75.

·       Karen suggested that next year we could do a bake sale to raise funds for our mission gifts.

·       Faith announced that our Christmas meeting will be DEC 8, 12:30 PM at South Station in the Library Room same as the last couple of years.

Program:    Jan Sodergren read the program that Ruth Colburn had planned to do.  It was about “People on the Move”.  It was noted that this includes many thousands of people over the ages, including Jesus and disciples, who went from city to city to preach.   Also includes many Chinese and African slaves.

Adjourned:  at 2:45 to brownies by Charlotte, and ice cream by Elaine, and coffee by Faith.  We thank them for making us happy.  Number 1 Room was not warm so we wonder what other arrangements we can make.

The insulated cups are still available (with embroidered UMC) so if you can talk to someone who might enjoy one of them for a keepsake or a gift or for their own use, please do so.
