Rutland United Methodist Women

Secretary/Treasurer Report

Date: 17 November 2009    Place:  Church Parlor w pellet stove.

Attendees: (14) Faith Berg, Ruth Colburn, Betty Corey, Pastor Deb, Beth Fernandes, June Fredette, Marj Hodgson,  Blanche Kelley,  Elaine Proctor, Diane Robinson, Sue Smith, Wilma Smith, Charlotte Steel, Gwen White.  (We missed those who could not be with us.)

President:  Celestine has submitted her resignation as she is not well and too busy.  Charlotte resumed the roll of President and led the meeting.  She asked that someone step forward to be President as she has done it for so many years.  We each expressed our thankfulness for this year.  Charlotte passed out UMW Pledge Cards and we recited the UMW Purpose, which is on the cards.

Secretary/Treasurer Reports: Copies of the Oct meeting were given out and read.

Pledges to date are:  $815.   As we did not make all the gifts as planned in our budget, we have extra money.
We voted to give $30 to UMC for the Thanksgiving baskets.

Devotions: Elaine Proctor read from Our Daily Bread, and read

Ephesians 3: 14-21; we all said the Lord’s Prayer.

Sunshine:  balance $18.36. We signed cards for Celestine Hall and Beulah Lanfear.  Elaine handled this as Jan was not here.

Business:

·       Nov 6, World Community Day at St.Peter’s Church was attended by Ruth, who said the talk by Mr. Donahue was interesting.

·       Jan 9: Church Women United needs a church to host the meeting.

·       Next meeting will be our Christmas meeting DEC 8, 12:30 PM at South Station in the Library Room same as the last couple of years.

·       Beth gave a report on the Sunset Home.  Their costs are up and income is low, as fewer women are residents.  They do not have an R.N. on staff as it was too costly, but they are covered by RAVNAH nurses when necessary.  They are to meet with the Bank in January to determine what will have to be done – whether there is any way they can stay open.

·       Prayer Shawls have been knitted and given to 80 people.  Marty is a big contributor with the afghans that he makes.

·       Pastor Debbie said that she has been notified that the New England UMW is to meet in this Rutland church on JAN 10th, 1:30-3:30.  She doesn’t know any more details – whether we are expected to do food or what.  They expect about 50 women at the meeting.

Program:    Ruth endeavored to find “good” news in the media.  As we know, about  95% of the news is “bad”.  She read of many items that show of good things that people are doing in the community.  Also the ways that we can help with Good Samaritan catalog – Christmas Child shoeboxes, etc.

Adjourned:  at 2:45 to pumpkin pie by Blanche, cake by Sue, and coffee by Faith.  We thank them for these treats.  Number 1 Room was not warm so we wonder what other arrangements we can make.

Submitted by Marj Hodgson, Sec since 11/02, requesting corrections

The insulated cups are still available (with embroidered UMC) so if you can talk to someone who might enjoy one of them for a keepsake or a gift or for their own use, please do so.
