UMCOR Responds to the Earthquakes in Afghanistan
http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/emergency/afghanearthquake1.cfm

UMCOR is working with its partners Action for Churches Together (ACT) and
Church World Service (CWS) in response to Monday's and Tuesday's strong earthquakes
in Afghanistan. ACT reports that the district capital of Nahrin
and surrounding villages were flattened. People in at least five villages have lost most of their
homes. The weather is still cold, especially at night. People are in desperate need of shelter.

Food Pantry Assists Hidden Victims of Sept. 11:
Love in the Midst of Tragedy (UMCOR)
http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/loveupdate/foodpantry.cfm

The economic impact of Sept. 11 registered at the food pantry within a week.
After Sept. 11, the October and November distributions hit an all- time peak of nearly
70,000 meals. "The United Methodist Committee on Relief
has been wonderful and totally essential to meet the increase and need
in providing food," executive director Doreen Wohl says.
"Without it, we would be turning people away."

Million-Member Women's Organization Addressing
Tough Issues in Philadelphia
http://gbgm-umc.org/global_news/pr.cfm?articleid=855

Members of one million-member United Methodist Women will descend on Philadelphia, Penn.,
April 25-28 for their quadrennial meeting - one that historically
challenges women to change unjust social systems, be aware of world issues,
and live out their faith in the process.

Is this Really Mission?
http://gbgm-umc.org/global_news/full_article.cfm?articleid=806

We are always praying for missionaries serving around the world.
In this moment, we focus on reflections of missionaries serving
in the United States. Among missionaries assigned by the General Board of
Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church
are many who serve in impoverished regions of the country and whose work,
at this time of struggle throughout the country takes on even greater meaning.
