2003 The Friendship Circle of the United Methodist Women met on April 2 at 2:00pm and the Starshine Circle met at 7:30pm. The general meeting was held on April 23rd at 7:30pm. The United Methodist Women held a prayer vigil and worship service on March 7 for the World Day of Prayer. Billie Mauler also sang at the Rush County Ministerial Alliance Service held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in LaCrosse. Administrative Council met on April 16th at 7:30pm. Holy Thursday services were held on April 17th at 7:30pm and the Parish Good Friday service on April 18th at Bison was at 7:30pm. On February 23, Mary Meckenstock from Hays preached in Otis. Chuck Carpenter from Great Bend held services on March 9 and on March 23, Brenda Legleiter from McCracken preached. Rev. Pat Ault-Duell held the April 6 services in Bison. On Febrary 9, Otis UMC and Otis UMC welcomed to their morning worship services the Haviland Christian Church Mime Group, a special group of young women sharing the gospel through drama. Otis UMC enjoyed the music of a special
quartet on Sunday, January 26. Rush county locals Gary, Humphrey,
Jim Rothe, and Ron Hanhardt, joined by Jay Wilson of Great Bend, shared
their musical gifts at the service. Thank you all!
2002 The annual, much-anticipated Otis UMC Mission Festival washeld on Sunday, October 27th. A pot-luck lunch will be held after worship followed by the auction. Proceeds benefitted the United Methodist Urban Ministries and the United Methodist Mexican-American Ministries. Craft and food items donated for the auction were very much appreciated. Those attending the other Parish churches were welcomed to join Otis for this special event for United Methodist missions. Old Iron Days April 28! Trinity Lutheran Church will celebrated their 125th anniversary on Sunday, May 5th with worship at 10:30am followed by a catered lunch at the Otis-Bison Elementary school. The Pro-Art Music Club Choir provided special music after lunch. The annual SADD (Students Against
Destructive Decisions) Variety Show was held Friday, April 5, at 7:00pm
at the Otis-Bison Elementary school.
Thank you! to Jean Richardson and all of the Program Council members who helped host the January Soup Supper and "white elephant" exchange. A great time was had by all! A big thank you and "hats off" to all the super cooks! All youth (7th grade and older) planning
to participate in confirmation class and their parents are invited to the
organizational meeting, Wednesday, February 6, 7:30pm at the Bison UMC.
2000-2001 Many Thanks! to all who contributed crafts and food items for the annual Harvest Festival auction. The church raised money for Mexican-American Ministries. Our thanks, too, to all who attended and purchased items! Thanks! to everyone who participated in the "Hanging of the Greens." This year the outdoor manger scene went on tour - it appeared on the Otis UMC Christmas float. Otis Mission Festival Sunday November 18, Pot-luck lunch after church and auction for missions. Money raised will support Mexican-American Ministries in Dodge and garden City. Parish and Otis community members are welcome to attend. A BIG OTIS THANK YOU to Ivan Worthen and the Board of Trustees for all the work to get the new air conditioner installed. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by all! Former Otis-Bison pastor Doug Hasty goes this year from Ness City to Oberlin-Prairie Chapel. Rev. Kay Kinkead has taken medical leave. Rev. Ed. Friesen is taking an appointment in the Kansas East Conference. The Otis UMC United Methodist Women recently visited UM Urban Ministries in Wichita. The Otis UMW and the church have supported Urban Ministries with many mission offerings in the past and it was great to see the ministry in action, everything from a large food bank to clothing to social services of every kind. The Bison UMC and the Trinity Lutheran Church were guests at the March Soup Supper on Sunday, February 11 at 5:30pm. Everyone brought a hobby or collectible to share with the group. There was a sign-up to bring soup. Thanks! to Jim Pool who shared his testimony in worship at the Otis UMC in February. Jim and his wife Shelly and their family live and work at Boystown in ministry to a house full of girls. God bless you!! The quilters at the Otis UMC sent six quilts back with Jim and Shelly for the girls. Ward off the winter chill with a great bowl of soup and friendly conversation on Sunday evening, January 28, 5:30pm. Sponsored by the Otis Program Council Join in! The Otis UMW hosted Louise Schultz and Marilea Beougher of Grainfield September 16. They gave a presentation about their trip to visit the Woods, missionaries in Costa Rica. |
