Every Christian needs to be affiliated with a local body of believers because God imparts His grace through regular interaction with brothers and sisters in Christ. We believe God is leading a number of people in our church family to become official members of Rush Chapel United Methodist Church. Please do not hesitate to talk with Pastor Larry about a first time commitment to Christ or about the transfer of your membership to Rush Chapel United Methodist Church. If God is leading you, please come forward as we sing the Hymn of Commitment. May God bless and be with you.

Give Thanks (Psalm 136.1)
Give thanks with a grateful heart; Give thanks to the Holy One; Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son. Give thanks with a grateful heart; Give thanks to the Holy One; Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son. And now let the weak say, “I am strong:” Let the poor say, “I am rich,” Because of what the Lord has done for us. And now let the weak say, “I am strong;” Let the poor say, “I am rich,” Because of what the Lord has done for us. Give thanks, give thanks, give thanks!
Go Light Your World (Matthew 5.14)
V. 1 - There is a candle in ev’ry soul, Some burning brightly, some dark and cold. There is a Spirit who brings a fire, Ignites a candle and makes His home.
Chorus – Carry your candle, run to the darkness, Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn. Hold out your candle for all to see it, Take your candle, and go light your world. Take your candle, and go light your world.
V. 2 – We are a fam’ly whose hearts are blazing, Let’s raise our candles light up the sky! Pray to our Father in the name of Jesus; Make us a beacon in darkest times.
The United Methodist Women have begun a project to share Christian reading materials with incarcerated persons. Please bring any Christian materials you would like to share, leave them in the basket in the foyer of the church, and the ladies will see that they go to persons who are, with God’s help, turning their lives around.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO BLESS OTHERS – Because the needs are so great right now in Haiti, a donor has challenged all who believe in the work of HAFF (Van Schoyck’s ministry) to give a gift. All contributions received by September 30, 2008 will be matched; if you give $100, the effect will be as if you gave $200. If you would like to help, please mail your contribution to HAFF, P. O. BOX 3421, N. FT. MYERS, FL 33918 and mark your gift, “Matching challenge.” Thank you for blessing others with what God has so generously given to you.
Check the table in the foyer for your copy of the August Rush Chapel Chimes, the September-October Upper Room devotional guide, and the current Shannon Spark.
On Wednesday evening, August 20, a group from the church met with Chime Masters to explore the possibility of installing chimes. This will be discussed further at the Council Board meeting on September 8, and we hope you can attend and learn more about this project.
On Monday, July 14, 2008, the Council Board approved the purchase of a new sound system for the sanctuary to be installed hopefully by Homecoming on September 21, 2008. Designated contributions have been given to underwrite approximately 85% of the cost of the new system; approximately $1,200 more is needed to pay in full for the system. If you would like to help with the purchase of this system, please make a note on your check and place in the offering. Thank you and may God bless you as you help with the work of God’s kingdom here in this place.
