THANK YOU FOR YOUR FAITHFULNESS!
All Saints Day is when the church
commemorates all of the faithful in our Christian heritage who have gone before
us. In our United Methodist tradition, it also focuses on those still living who
have contributed to the work and ministry of the church in significant ways.
We thank God for all saints present today and those
who have come before us and are now
resting eternally in the presence of our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
Welcome to all visitors! If this is your first visit to Rush Chapel, please complete a card and sign our guest book located near the front door.
As we approach the 2nd
annual Rush Chapel Women’s Retreat November 13-15, let us pray for the women
participating.
God will use this retreat to bless abundantly in
many ways.
Pray daily for each one.
Thank you.

Law and Gospel
Please read Matthew
5.17-20
Loving and Righteous
God,
You call us to be loving people who do not
abandon your law but are obedient to it because it is rooted in your love.
Ceremonies and rituals pass away, but your law
of love, O God, stands forever.
Your grace and your law-the good news of your
love for us in Christ and your demand for justice-are not two separate
things but one and the same expression of your will for all people.
Your law continually points to the gospel, and
the gospel continually leads us to a more exact fulfilling of your law.
Guard us from failing to recognize this
important connection, from willfully disregarding your loving directions for
life, from emphasizing the inner life while ignoring the external demands
for justice, and from believing we are above your law because we have been
saved by your grace
What we need is a faith that works by love.
Guard us from the trap of being religious but
never living in your Spirit, from trusting ourselves to measure up to the
highest standard of your law of love. Empower us through our faith to be
great in our capacity to love, rather than falsely viewing ourselves as
better than others; to immerse ourselves in your means of grace, not to show
off but to learn how to be more loving and compassionate to others; to give
with glad and generous hearts, not to feel good about ourselves but to offer
all we have for others.
By the power of your love at work within us,
enable us to fulfill not only the letter, but more particularly, the spirit
of the law, that you might be glorified in all things and that our
transparent love for you and our neighbor might point to your purity,
justice, and love. Amen.
