Bridges to the Future

As we close this year it is a time of great transition: election of a new president, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a new year on the horizon. With this New Year Rossville United Methodist Church is embarking on a new conference capital campaign. This campaign is called "Bridges to the Future." This campaign has a focus to help improve ministry in the Kansas area. The funding for this campaign will help some very important ministries of our area. Bridges to the Future will support: 1) campus ministry programs, 2) revitalizing existing congregations and starting new ministries and 3) camping ministries.

The "Bridges to the Future" capital campaign for the Kansas East Conference continues to move forward with receptions with individuals, church presentations and pledges. Bishop Scott Jones and campaign director Laura Murphy are continuing to meet with individuals and hold receptions while several of the churches that were not able to receive a presentation or make a pledge prior to Annual Conference are in the process of doing so now. The endless support of prayers and pledges continue to be instrumental in making this campaign a success!

Our church's responsibility will be to provide $11,400 over 5 years. That is a total of a little over $2,000 a year. This is above and beyond our conference apportionments. The good news is that we have a great history of paying not only our apportionments every year but also such conference campaigns. These conference campaigns help us as a local church. As we raise these funds who is to say we can't get the funds to help support a new ministry in our church? We have many young people in our church who will be attending college; these funds will help them keep a connection to Jesus Christ through their college years.

I know by the time you read this article we will be done with the political campaign wars. (Thank God!) However, as we approach the days ahead we will be beginning a new campaign. A capital campaign that will help to build a bridge to the future for the United Methodists in the great state of Kansas! You will be hearing more information about bridges in the days ahead and in the beginning of 2009.

Shalom,

Pastor Mark
