Church Conference Each year, the church budget is voted upon, officers are elected, and reports are given during the annual Church Conference. If it is called a charge conference only elected officers can vote. With it being called a church conference all church members can vote. This year the church conference will be held Sunday, November 16 around 1:00 P.M. We will have refreshments after the 10:45 A.M. worship service that day. Because of that, we might be able to begin the conference a little before 1:00 P.M. Thanksgiving Service Thanksgiving is a time to remember the blessings so abundantly poured into our lives. Wednesday, November 26, 7:30 P.M. a Thanksgiving Worship Service will be held in the Rodes United Methodist Church sanctuary. Join us as we remember the bountiful blessings given to us through song, prayers, and scripture reading. Short-term mission work Mary Dodd and Martha Kennedy have volunteered to travel to Guatemala with Health Talents International, Inc. This organization is sponsored by the Church of Christ promoting medical evangelism in developing countries. The trip is January 19 - 24, 2009. The groups will participate in approximately 90 surgical procedures that week. Through this trip the health of persons will be improved and the love of Jesus shown. The cost for this trip is $1500 per person. You can pray for Mary and Martha as well as the rest of the team. Also you can contribute financially. You can make your check out to “Rodes United Methodist Church.” Be sure to designate the check as to what it is for. If there is no designation on the check, the money is used in the operating fund of the congregation. You can write on the check or the envelope “Guatemala trip.” Any donations would be appreciated. Missionary Support : Clara Biswas Clara Mridula Biswas is assigned as a community worker in Cambodia. She works to improve the lives of impoverished children in Phnom Penh, many of whom are homeless and live in the streets. Clara is ministering in a place that most of us will never travel to and ministering to a people we will probably never personally minister to. Clara was chosen by the Rodes United Methodist Men to be supported financially. The goal is to raise $1050 per year. Special offering envelopes are available in the vestibule of the church building or your can send your gifts to 8472 Rockfish Valley Highway, Afton, VA 22920. Please make your checks to the United Methodist Men and mark your gift "for missionary support." Thank you for your support of Clara through your prayers and finances. |
